New Certificate Program!
Launching September 2019
Are you interested in gaining an entry level position in the banking, financial services or insurance industries? Then the Financial Services Certificate is for you! After completing this 8-week certificate program, you will have opportunity to take the Securities Industries Essentials (SIE) exam which is administered and accredited by FINRA (Financial Industry Regulatory Authority).
This will be a daytime program and the first session will launch on Monday, September 9th. Classes will run from 8:15 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on the Indian Hills’ Ottumwa campus. This program will follow the standard IHCC academic week of Monday through Thursday.
In addition to coursework designed to prepare you for the SIE exam, you will also take classes to help you with business writing and etiquette, customer service skills, keyboarding skills, and Microsoft Excel and Outlook. In both Excel and Outlook, you will have the chance to earn certificates endorsed by Microsoft, which demonstrate your skill with these programs to future employers.
Courses included in the Financial Services Certificate:
Keyboarding Skill Development – (16 hours)
This course covers the development of keyboarding techniques using the touch method on the computer keyboard to learn/review the alphabetic, numeric, and symbol keys. The keyboarding goal is a minimum rate of 35 words a minute with three or fewer errors on a three-minute timing.
SIE Exam Prep – (60 hours)
Students will investigate the concepts presented on the SIE Exam. Significant time during the course will be devoted to practice exams. Students will be scheduled to take the SIE Exam during the final week of the course.
Office Fundamentals – (40 hours)
Students will practice business office etiquette while learning to engage external and internal customers with a high degree of professionalism. This course will include phone, email and in-person scenarios. Students will also practice some of the basic concepts of business writing, including the practice of taking notes in a CRM.
Excel – (24 hours)
In this course, the student will learn to use the basic functionality of Excel by completing business-related applications, exercises, lab projects and tests. (Opportunity to become MOS Certified in Excel.)
Outlook – (24 hours)
Students will learn to effectively utilize Microsoft Outlook. (Opportunity to become MOS Certified in Outlook.)
Personal Finance – (8 hours)
Budgeting for your income will be a primary focus of this course. We will also discuss credit scores, planning for retirement and the appropriate use of debt.
Resume Building & Interview Skills – (8 hours)
Students will build a resume to share with prospective employers as well as practice interview skills.
Tuition for the course is $2,690. This includes all course materials, plus exam fees. It also includes transportation for the class to take the SIE exam in Des Moines. (Students unable to take the exam on the scheduled day, must make their own travel arrangements for testing.) You can also just take one, two or more of the individual courses listed.
