Indian Hills students involved in mock mass casualty drill Indian Hills Emergency Medical Services (EMS) students and public service units from Wapello and Mahaska counties recently participated in a mock mass casualty drill at Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont High School. The scenario was a shooting in which two gunmen opened fire in the school. Law enforcement and medical personnel responded to neutralize the gunmen and evacuate the wounded to be treated and transported to nearby hospitals.

Congratulations to the team of students from Indian Hills' Aviation Maintenance Technology program that competed in the 2017 Aerospace Maintenance Competition. The students captured first place in the school division at the international competition in Orlando, Fla., last month. The IHCC team competed with 21 other aviation schools, and alongside corporate and commercial companies like United Airlines, American Airlines, Alaska Airlines, JetBlue, Boeing and UPS. Indian Hills' Medical/Insurance Coding program has been approved by the Professional Certificate Approval Program (PCAP) Council, through April of 2020. Sarah Cottington, Health Informatics Program Director, said the PCAP Council commended IHCC for its commitment to the development of an outstanding coding certificate program. IHCC's Health Information Technology program has been accredited by the Commission on the Accreditation for Health Informatics and Information Management Education accredited for many years. Students in the coding program complete the first four terms of the HIT program. Cottington said holding our coding students to the same high standard of quality and excellence was evident in the PCAP application. There are currently 28 PCAP-approved coding programs in the nation. According to the PCAP-approved school directory, IHCC is the first PCAP-approved coding program located in Iowa.… Continue Reading »
