Step 3: Send Your Transcripts

The admissions team will need your high school and prior college/university transcript, along with documentation of your military education credits:

Joint Service Transcript (JST): Army, Navy, Marines, Coast Guard, National Guard
Community College of the Air Force (CCAF): Air Force only

After you submit these forms, you'll be assigned a confirmation number — be sure to keep track of this for future reference.

You'll receive your Certificate of Eligibility by mail or email within approximately 30 days. Please send a copy of this document to your IHCC Veterans Affairs advisor.

If you've used GI Bill benefits at another college...

Already earned credits at a different college or university? You'll need this form:

You'll list "Indian Hills Community College" as your attending institution. When you receive your updated Certificate of Eligibility, please forward a copy to your IHCC Veterans Affairs advisor.

If you're applying as a dependent...

You'll first need to ask your servicemember or veteran to complete and submit this form:

When that form has been approved, it's time to fill out and submit this form for yourself:

Step 5: Sign Up for VA Education & Career Coaching

If you have a service-connected disability that limits your ability to work or prevents you from working, the Veteran Readiness & Employment program —also known as Chapter 31 or VR&E — can help. VA experts will help you explore employment options and address education or training needs. In some cases, your family members may also qualify for certain benefits.

Step 6: Apply for a National Guard Scholarship

The Iowa National Guard Service Scholarship (INGSS-State TA) provides annual awards to Iowa National Guard members who attend eligible Iowa colleges and universities, including IHCC.

The scholarship application form and your FAFSA must be submitted by July 1 for fall/winter terms and December 1 for spring term.

Step 7: Apply for Military Tuition Assistance

All service branches offer financial assistance for voluntary, off-duty education programs in support of service members’ personal and professional goals.

The Tuition Assistance Program may fund up to 100% of your college tuition and certain fees with the following limits

Not to exceed $250 per semester credit hour or $166 per quarter credit hour

Not to exceed $4,500 per fiscal year, Oct. 1 through Sept. 30

The program is open to officers, warrant officers and enlisted active-duty service personnel. In addition, members of the National Guard and Reserve Components may be eligible for tuition assistance based on service eligibility.
