Our main campus feels spacious with its wooded, rolling setting on the northwest side of Ottumwa, Iowa. Yet it is also compact and very walkable. Home to the basketball, cheer squad, cross country, golf, soccer, softball, track and field, and volleyball teams.
Walking Tour
Hills Kitchen is a great place to eat whether you live on campus or not. The buffet
is just $3.50 for students. It’s open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
IHCC has one of the top Culinary Arts Programs in the state. Learn from award-winning
instructors in industry-standard kitchens.
Head to the library for quiet study, group projects, or computer time. When you have
a research project, a librarian can help you find and use relevant resources.
Inside the library, there’s a campus store. Textbooks for classes, highlighters for
studying, Warrior gear for everything—find it here.
Our main lounge is “The Pit.” Popular for breakfast, it's a great place to use your
Warrior Bucks for grab-and-go snacks. Or pick up a fancy coffee for $2! (We don’t
use real-world pricing.)
Need a little extra studying? You can find free tutoring with peers or faculty. We want you to be successful at IHCC and every student
has access to the Academic Success Center.
Check it out! The Tom Arnold Net Center has a multipurpose court, cardio area, weights,
and even a sports medicine lab. You can work out here for free or join a pick-up game.
OneStop is exactly what it sounds like. Any questions you have about college—registration,
financial aid, billing, etc.—bring them to OneStop.
Living on Campus
Trustee Hall is just one of our residence halls. We also have Appanoose, Oak, Wapello,
and Keokuk/Mahaska Hall.
So much to love about our modern residence halls—key-card access, free laundry, great
Wi-Fi, and air conditioning! Use one of our bed risers to create storage under your
bed. If you live off-campus, the cleaning is on you. On campus, the wonderful maintenance
staff keep the bathrooms and lounges clean every day.
Live in either a double room (you’ll have one roommate), super single, or apartment
style dorm room. You can sign up with a friend or we’ll match you with a roomie (or
three, for the apartment-style). Halls are co-ed; rooms are not.
We know laundry is no fun, but we make it a little easier. Ever see so many new washing
machines? And they’re free!
Looking for a quick and convenient snack or drink on your way to class? Swing by our
micro-market in the Advanced Technology Center! You’ll find a delicious selection
of deli sandwiches, crackers, chips, protein bars, and a variety of beverages.
Classes done for the day? A great place to relax is the suspension bridge behind the
Hellyer Student Life Center.
IHCC boasts several beautiful ponds on campus, and the largest is a stocked fishing
haven for students. What’s more, we’ve started a brand-new fishing club! Packing for
college? Don't forget your fishing pole.
Student Life
When we say this place feels like a four-year, it’s not just the pretty campus. It’s
the activities, too. Make friends, pick up a hobby, or deepen your career experience
with a student club. Some are more recreational, like the Art Club or Pickleball.
Other clubs are career-focused, like the Criminal Justice Club or the Scrub Club.
IHCC’s international students share treats from their home countries during a fundraiser.
Imagine the aroma of Indian samosas, a Dutch stroopwafel, or a Korean kimchi pancake—all
in one place! The students raise funds but also foster cultural exchange and understanding.
Throughout the year, Student Life sponsors activities like the Glow Roller Rink. The
Tom Arnold Net Center became the place to roll around for one night!
Our intercollegiate athletic teams draw top talent and big crowds. Last season, the Warrior Softball team crushed it with an all-time single-season home
run record of 113+. Talk about a slugfest, batters! #WeAreWarriors
#WeAreHills – Almost every IHCC team is ranked nationally. Our athletes come from
across the country and around the globe to play in Iowa. And although the crowds are
big, there’s a free seat for you. (Tickets are free for students.) It gets packed!
The Cheer and Dance Squad lead the crowd at our lively (and sometimes loud) home sporting
events. Every year they compete at Nationals. Fight, Fight, Warriors – IHCC!

usual? Visit Wally’s Clothing Closet for free clothes available to students.
Campus Life
Each year starts with Warrior Welcome Week. Meet new friends and catch up with old
ones. Lots of free swag and activities.
IHCC students were able to GLOW CRAZY when Operation Glow came to campus. The event,
held at the Net Center, included a DJ, glow in the dark paint, and laser show!
Celebrate spring with a courtyard cookout! Sunshine, food, and friends.
Squirt-gun fight! You can run, but you cannot hide.
Summer means another cookout on campus with a side of bag games and fun opportunities
to win free swag.
Study Spaces
The Library offers various areas for hitting the books, including quiet spaces for
focused study and spots for group work and a drink.
Study inside? No, it’s a beautiful day to catch up on your reading and still catch
a few rays. Indian Hills has a lot of green space to study outside — on a blanket,
a bench, or a table.
The Pit has seen fun social events, like making ice cream floats, playing bingo, and
small concerts, but it also brings students to study on their own or in a group.
Work on group projects in study rooms or classrooms. Whiteboards and 75-inch TVs make
it easy to collaborate and jot down everyone's ideas.
Invite a study group to your dorm to prep for the next big test. If your dorm room
is too small for your group, remember each floor has a common room to work together.
Did you know some people love math? The best study space might be next to one of them—especially
when they’re an Indian Hills tutor. We want you to learn and succeed. Tutoring is
free for any IHCC student. We have a writing lab and tutors for subjects other than
math, too!
Health Sciences Programs
Our Health Sciences programs share dedicated facilities in the Rosenman Center and
the Rural Health Education Center. This includes a Simulation Lab space set up like a doctor's office and a hospital. These large, newer buildings are right next to each other on the East side of our
Ottumwa Campus.
Nursing students practice their skills in simulation labs with lifelike mannequins
as patients. The IHCC associate degree nursing program prepares you to take the NCLEX-RN
exam. This program gives you classroom, lab, and clinical experience. Work with your
advisor if you plan to transfer to earn a BSN later.
Simulation labs are set up so the instructor can run a learning scenario from behind
the scenes. The instructor programs the “patients” to cry or otherwise show symptoms.
Nursing students can practice skills and apply knowledge in a safe setting.
IHCC Phlebotomy students hone their skills with hands-on practice, preparing to make
a difference in patient care.
First year radiologic technology students practice doing an x-ray table lateral C-spine,
AP chest, abdomen and pelvis. Later in the program, more than half of your time will
be spent in hospitals and clinical radiology departments.
Sometimes it is nice to get out of the classroom and work in your trade while helping
others. The Dental Assisting Class helped the Iowa Mission of Mercy provide free dental
care to hundreds of patients.
Information Technology Programs
IT, Manufacturing Tech, and Transportation Tech classes meet in the Advanced Technology
Center, right in the middle of campus.
IT Fundamentals prepares students for entry-level IT careers and involves hands-on
training. Imagine the fun of building a liquid-cooled PC!
Build, manage, and maintain your own server. This includes installation, operation,
security, and maintenance of computer systems and networks just like those used in
business and industry.
Manage the linked power of computing networks with the Cybersecurity and Systems Administration
program. Spend much of your time in the Cybersecurity Lab, equipped with modern equipment
and networks.
In Computer Software Development you work behind the scenes and get hands-on training
in computer languages, web design, and app development. This is a growing field and
a place for your creative side to find ways to solve problems through coding.
Learn website and landing page design in the IHCC Interactive Media Technology Program.
You’ll also learn graphic design for print and digital pieces. It’s a 21-month (seven-term)
program.
Performing and Visual Arts
The Chamber Choir gives you a chance to meet new people who share your passion for
singing across various genres. The Pop Concert choir is open to all IHCC students
without auditions and puts on several performances each year.
The IHCC Art Gallery is in the library and displays works of art from students, faculty,
and local artists. It also hosts national traveling exhibits. It is one of the best
galleries in SE Iowa.
IHCC Jazz Bands and ensembles are for students to explore music careers or simply
express themselves through their art.
If you’re thinking about a theatre career, IHCC has you covered. You can earn an Associate
of Arts degree in just 18 months. Afterward, you’ll have the flexibility to follow
your passion or transfer to a four-year college for a Bachelor of Arts. Break a leg!
All students can audition for full-length productions — not just theatre majors. You
can also get involved in set construction, makeup, special effects, lighting, or sound.
A group of students recently acted in a production of Greater Tuna.
What a great tradition! Will your name be added? Theatre students get to sign the
wall following their final performance.
And the winner is . . . (drumroll, please!) Every year, we roll out the red carpet
and unveil the theatre awards at our fabulous Cake on an Empty Stage Celebration!
It’s a blast for all the talented students who’ve been part of it throughout the year.
Manufacturing Programs
IHCC Laser and Optics Technology has an international reputation. Companies from across
the country fly in each year to interview graduating students. That’s what “in-demand”
skills mean.
The Gentec-EO Laser Lab Awards chose IHCC as one of twelve colleges in the world to
win a new, industry-standard laser energy meter.
Get an Associate of Applied Science degree in Machine Technology in just 18 months.
You start with manual equipment and progress to automated systems. IHCC works with
local employers to align our curriculum with real-world job requirements.
You will get some on-the-job experience when you study Machine Technology at IHCC.
During classes, students have opportunities to build parts for local businesses in
our community.
In the Industrial Maintenance program you will learn to maintain and install state-of-the-art
equipment. You get 1-1 assistance from your instructors. On the Ottumwa Campus, the
lab is open so you can practice as your schedule allows. Invest in yourself with education!
Work full-time and still earn your HVAC and Refrigeration diploma in six months (two
terms). You will be needed: every home and every business needs this equipment—yet
HVAC systems eventually break down or wear out.
Transportation Programs
IHCC is the only Auto Technology department in Iowa to have a live lab where students
work on actual cars of students, faculty, and staff for reduced prices. It’s amazing
"on-the-job training,” all on campus.
Students work on a variety of makes and models so you’ll be prepared for the range
of vehicles most shops fix.
Cars have gotten increasingly complex in the 21st century. IHCC is a great place to
train for an entry-level career. It is also a chance for team learning and getting
to know students studying the same program.
The Automatic Transmission class watches a rebuilt transmission demo on camera. IHCC
has great instructors and the support of local leaders in automotive repair.
IHCC offers the NATEF Master Certified Full-Service Program, which includes classroom
work and different areas of car repair. Complete the Automotive Tech program in just
21 months (seven terms).
