Our goal is to empower all students to achieve their full academic potential. The Academic Success Center, with locations on the Ottumwa and Centerville campuses, provides students with assistance via tutoring, skill-building courses, and other services. Computer labs are also available, during business hours, on both campuses.
ACADEMIC SUPPORT SERVICES
Note: These services are available for both online and on-campus students.
Skill-Building Courses
These courses prepare students for success in basic, college-level courses, especially in the subjects of English and Math. The material is designed to strengthen each student's skills, and to provide a firm foundation for life-long learning in higher education settings. Find out more here.
Credit-Exchange Courses
This process allows students to "exchange" an existing course with a skill-building course (described above). This is the last option for students who are failing a course, and have no recourse but to exit the course, but wish to maintain their credit hours. Permission of the Success Center Director is required.
Professional Faculty-Tutor Assistance
The Math and Writing Labs are staffed with faculty-tutors for walk-in service and appointments by phone. For writing assistance, please ensure that the due date for your paper and/or essay is at least 24 hours after the tutoring appointment to allow sufficient time for revision and correction of the paper/essay. Student-Peer Tutors
For tutoring in subjects other than mathematics or English, we utilize student-peer tutors. A list of student-peer tutors is available at the Academic Success Center. Online Tutoring Access with 24/7 Availability
You can access NetTutor by clicking the link at the bottom of the blue navigation pane in your MyHILLS class. If your instructor has not made that available, stop by or call the Success Center front desk and we’ll give you a user name and password to use at www.nettutor.com
Online Academic Success Center
Our Online Academic Success Center offers a variety of helpful resources you can access at any time, as well as scheduled "live" online tutoring via Collaborate. To access these resources, log in to MyHills, click "Academic Success Center," (found in the "Campus Links" module). Then, click the "Enroll" link in the menu on the left.
