Aviation Maintenance at Indian Hills Community College is a FAA (Federal Aviation Administration) approved program, which means students graduating from the program not only earn a degree from Indian Hills, but also a Federal Airframe and Powerplant License! This license will allow you to work on all types of aircraft, ANYWHERE in the United States! The program is located at the North Campus, just minutes from the Ottumwa Industrial Airport. The Aviation Maintenance program provides you with the skills to obtain a fun, exciting, challenging and rewarding career that offers good pay and benefits. There are few jobs that are more exhilarating than working on an aircraft.

It takes less than 2 years to complete the Aviation Maintenance program. Students graduate with an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree and the average starting wage is $20.00 per hour!

  • Aircraft electrical wiring and troubleshooting
  • Aircraft sheet metal and composite fabrication and repair
  • Turbine and reciprocating engine repair and inspection
  • Aircraft communication and navigation systems
  • Fixed wing and rotor wing “helicopter” flight control systems

The Federal Aviation Administration requires (FAA Order 8900.2C) that students can read, speak, and write in the English language sufficiently. As a result, students will be subject to taking the ESL ACCUPLACER Exam at the start of the program. Certain scores may require additional developmental coursework to be taken.
